This is a good solution and idea in the same time. Following your idea from this code to add a negative z-index value seems to work fine if is used in css with conditional comments.

I've created a file ie7.css and inside:

for menu: position: absolute; z-index: 999999;
for content: position: relative; z-index: -2;

And everything work fine :)

Cheers

Thanks for stopping by! Yes, Facebook places is no longer around. I've been using Foursquare, but I have read rumors that they might not be around for that much longer either. They had some good points:

Thanks for the comments. Ya, feel free to link away. I checked out your site and most of it was over my head. As for my Wordpress theme, I'm just using the standard one that comes with the latest version of Wordpress. I really like it. I don't have the time to put together my own themes anymore.

I hope you found the browser detection useful. It worked great for several of the projects at my last job. They let me post it open-source.

Nah, that's the hotel room I stayed in. No way does my home actually look that nice. San Francisco is still a very beautiful city. I loved walking along the piers in the morning with the sun coming up.

These are such great photos. Thank the Lord, they weren't taken with Instagram either! I really like this one, and the fountain photo (where was that, it looks familiar to me... San Francisco Bay Area too?), and also the "I have arrived" in Silicon Valley photo.

May I have permission to re-post that arrival photo and this one on my tumblr blog? The URL is above. I'll give whatever attribution you require. My blog is child-safe and rated as such by Web Of Trust. It's mostly about data and economics and probability and history.

I found my way here from a post about browser detection using PHP, this one:
http://chrisschuld.com/projects/browser-php-detecting-a-users-browser-from-php/
You then did a browser detection with JavaScript, I think. Does it work okay?

I wish my WordPress dot com blogs looked as sleek as yours. My gooplex blog isn't too bad, but whoever coded the template for my other one didn't even bother to check XHTML, or any other validator, for errors!

Are you serious? How can anyone's home look that tidy and stark? Ohhh, okay, you are a contractor or maybe on a business trip? That would make more sense.

Those photos of "the lovely office" and "waiting for the office to open" looked kind of bleak. I used to live in Palo Alto. San Francisco gets a lot less bleak looking in the evenings and in the spring, summer and fall though.

You asked what I thought of Facebook Places. Mostly the same thing that I think of FourSquare and Gowalla: Location-based services for social networking purposes is exposing oneself to unnecessary risk. IF used for recreational purposes only.

For some use cases, it can be great. Best example I've heard is real-estate agents who need to know each other's location during the day. They don't have the benefit of a dispatcher, and are all free agents, literally. The app doesn't serve any creepy secondary function. The users of the service get all the benefits without downside risk (creepiest downside risk is being monitored for productivity, lunch break duration by a supervisor). That's because realtors are mostly self-employed.

Facebook Places has been discontinued (maybe, I'm not sure). Even though I'm fairly vigilant about privacy, and not at all fond of Facebook, I get irritated by the sort of fear-mongering you mentioned in your post. As you said, it actually does more harm than good!

Final thought, which is why I left this comment, cause I've never seen anyone else mention it. I always do what you described. I enable features that send me notifications that my photo has been tagged, or location or whatever. Like you said, I surely want to be informed that I've been tagged so I can have a look for myself! I was tagged incorrectly once, and received the auto-notification, and was so happy I enabled it!

Good V I should certainly pronounce, impressed with your website. I had no trouble navigating through all the tabs and related information ended up being truly easy to do to access. I recently found what I hoped for before you know it at all. Quite unusual. Is likely to appreciate it for those who add forums or something, website theme . a tones way for your customer to communicate. Nice task..
